Project B.A.S.E.

BUILDING ACCESSIBLE SUPPORTS AND EDUCATION

The goal of this project is to provide a range of services that are not currently offered on Base, and to integrate Athena’s Sexual Assault Counselling and Advocacy Centre (Athena’s) services into the network of Base Borden. With over 20 years of experience serving survivors of intimate partner violence, Athena's is able to act as an entry point for women who have experienced violence on Base, allowing them to seamlessly access services that are trauma-informed and barrier-free, while also creating awareness and education programs for the wider community.

We have also partnered with other key community organizations operating in Simcoe County so that we may refer individuals to other programs or services that will best meet their needs.

OUTREACH THROUGH PROJECT B.A.S.E.

Project BASE builds on HTH’s existing training curriculum to create and deliver specialized content for civilian and non-civilian members of CFB Borden. The training aims to dispel the myths of sexual violence, cultivate a systemic understanding surrounding the barriers to seeking support and will provide trauma-informed, culturally safe and emotionally supportive responses to disclosures of sexual violence.

Workshops include topics such as rape culture, power/privilege/oppression, healthy relationships, and trauma-informed care. These learnings have been designed with an awareness of Base and military culture and with an understanding and awareness of ongoing supports and services already available on Base.

THE ONLINE LEARNING CENTRE

HTH is committed to democratizing access to information, and often information for individuals who have been sexually assaulted is difficult to navigate. Through Project BASE, HTH has built an online learning centre to assist individuals who have experienced sexual violence to understand options for support.

Check out the learning centre here.

This project is funded by the Department of National Defense - Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre
