Job Summary
The Accounting Clerk provides financial and administrative support to ensure the efficient day-to-day operations of Huronia Transition Homes (HTH). This position is responsible for supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with financial reporting and administrative processes. The Accounting Clerk works closely with the Financial Controller and other team members to ensure financial information is accurate, organized, and up to date.
Responsibilities and Activities
Financial Support
- Process accounts payable, including invoice entry, verification, coding, and filing.
- Process employee expense claims and ensure compliance with organizational policies.
- Manage receivable accounts activities, including tracking and recording grants, funding, donations, sales, and other revenue sources.
- Prepare and reconcile petty cash regularly.
- Complete bank deposits and maintain accurate transaction records.
- Review and reconcile supplier statements and identify discrepancies for discussion with the Financial Controller.
- Issue charitable tax receipts in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Complete Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) filings and reporting requirements.
- Consolidate Ontario Gaming (OG) sales information and supporting records.
- Enter financial transactions and data into accounting systems accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare, send, and file invoices, receipts, and payment records.
- Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable balances.
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.
- Support organizational purchasing and procurement activities.
- Maintain filing systems for financial and administrative documentation.
- Provide general administrative support to the Finance Department and leadership team.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant subject (Business Accounting)
- 1-3 years of experience in a finance role
- Proficient in Microsoft 365, Excel, Sage 50 (or similar accounting program)
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Familiarity with the way nonprofit organizations are structured
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Must display interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written
