Project B.A.S.E.

BUILDING ACCESSIBLE SUPPORTS AND EDUCATION

Project B.A.S.E. (Building Accessible Supports and Education), a program through Athena's Counselling and Advocacy Centre, reduces barriers to trauma-informed services and education for civilian and non-civilian members of the CFB Borden community, their families, and anyone in the larger community impacted by sexual or gender-based violence. With over 20 years of experience serving survivors of gender-based violence, Athena's is able to act as an entry point for women and gender diverse people who have experienced violence on Base, allowing them to seamlessly access services that are trauma-informed and barrier-free, while also creating awareness and education programs for the wider community.

  • 1 on 1 counselling support for women and gender diverse people age 16+
  • referrals to external counselling services for men and children under the age of 1; we have partnered with other key community organizations operating in Simcoe County so that we may refer individuals to other programs or services that will best meet their needs.
  • psychoeducational workshops and events for the wider Borden community
  • Services are available virtually, as well as in person on base and at Athena's Barrie office

OUTREACH THROUGH PROJECT B.A.S.E.

Project BASE builds on HTH’s existing training curriculum to create and deliver specialized content for civilian and non-civilian members of CFB Borden. The training aims to dispel the myths of sexual violence, cultivate a systemic understanding surrounding the barriers to seeking support and will provide trauma-informed, culturally safe and emotionally supportive responses to disclosures of sexual violence.

Workshops include topics such as healthy relationships, consent culture, power/privilege/oppression, trauma-informed care, and digital safety. These learnings have been designed with an awareness of Base and military culture and with an understanding and awareness of ongoing supports and services already available on Base. Topic suggestions or requests are welcome and can be tailored to encompass the specific needs of individual units at CFB Borden.

THE ONLINE LEARNING CENTRE

HTH is committed to democratizing access to information, and often information for individuals who have been sexually assaulted is difficult to navigate. Through Project BASE, HTH has built an online learning centre to assist individuals who have experienced sexual violence to understand options for support.
