Athena’s Counselling & Advocacy Centre
Provides free and confidential services for women, girls and gender diverse people 16 years of age and older, throughout Simcoe County, who have experienced gender-based violence at any time in their lives. Athena's operates across Simcoe County with locations in Orillia, Collingwood, Midland, Alliston and a main office located in Barrie.
Services
- a 24 hour telephone crisis line
- individual counselling and psychoeducational support groups
- legal support, advocacy, information, and referrals
- speaking engagements and public education for secondary and post-secondary schools, teams, community groups, and professional organizations
SEXUAL ASSAULT CENTRE
Counselling and trauma informed support for those who have experienced historical or childhood sexual abuse or assault, a recent sexual assault, human trafficking, online exploitation, sexual harassment, and court-trauma
Partner Abuse Program
- Information, support, and individual and group counselling for women who have experienced abuse in a partner relationship
- Program helps to plan for safety, decrease isolation and increase self-confidence
Public Education
Presentations are done in person or virtually on consent, healthy relationships, online safety, gender, respect and self-esteem, and 'rape culture'
