Economic Empowerment Coordinator

contract position - 11 months

The Economic Empowerment Coordinator plays a key role in HTH’s violence against women specialized wrap-around services, supporting women and gender-diverse persons to strengthen their economic stability. The Coordinator engages an intersectional feminist and harm reduction philosophy to facilitate women’s access to education, employment, and financial opportunities that support sustainable livelihoods.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

PROGRAM DELIVERY AND DAILY OPERATIONS

· Coordinate and deliver the day-to-day activities of the economic empowerment program.

· Support in the day-to-day operations of Operation Grow’s community hub, including its co-working space

· Develop and deliver weekly workshops focused on employment-readiness and skill-building.

· Coordinate guest speakers, mentors, and facilitators to enhance program offerings

· Perform problem-solving and decision-making in accordance with policies and procedures, consulting with the Program Supervisor as required.

· Adhere to Health and Safety measures and emergency procedures at all times.

· Work from an intersectional feminist, trauma-informed and harm reduction approach in all service delivery.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT SUPPORT

· Provide individualized resume development, job search support and application assistance to women in service.

· Support women to apply for education and skills-training programs, including navigation of application processes and follow-up.

· Support women to transition into mainstream employment

· Facilitate asset mapping using the Sustainable Livelihoods Framework (SLF) to support women to build and identify strengths, goals and aspirations.

· Support women to develop individualized education and employment pathway plans aligned with their readiness and interests.

EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION READINESS PATHWAYS AND COLLABORATIONS

· Build and maintain pathways to support women to navigate employment readiness services, education and training programs in community.

· Provide a supportive environment for women to access community-based employment and education supports

· Establish and maintain partnerships with employment, education and training organizations to support accessible pathways for women in service to gain skills, and certifications

· Strengthen and enhance partnerships with organizations that can reduce material and financial barriers to employment

· Engage community partners to contribute expertise to the development and delivery of workshops and trainings

· Support opportunities for on-site or integrated service delivery with community partners at the hub space as appropriate.

TEAM AND AGENCY PARTICIPATION

· Active participation in staff and agency meetings;

· Work collaboratively with management, staff and volunteers to ensure effective support and service provision;

· Promote a healthy and respectful workplace;

· Participate in applicable training, supervision and team meetings;

· Practice open, direct, respectful communication;

· Abide by all policies, procedures, rules and regulations of Huronia Transition Homes

qualifications

Education

· Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Work, Feminist Studies, Gender Studies, Mental Health & Addictions, Community Development, or related field.

· Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in trauma-informed wellness, violence against women services, anti-human trafficking or community mental health.

· Experience facilitating group programming and activities.

· First Aid/CPR Certification

· WHMIS

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

· Knowledge of human trafficking and violence against women frameworks.

· Understanding of employment barriers for marginalized and rural populations.

· Financial literacy facilitation skills.

· Familiarity with the Sustainable Livelihoods Framework (or willingness to train).

· Strong partnership development skills.

· Excellent facilitation, coaching and advocacy skills.

· Ability to work from intersectional feminist, anti-oppressive and harm reduction frameworks.

· Strong understanding of human trafficking, gender-based violence and survivor impacts.

· Strong engagement, rapport-building and motivational skills.

· Ability to work both independently and within interdisciplinary teams.

· An understanding of, and an ability to work with, diverse women including women from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds;

· Solid problem solving and conflict resolution skills;

· Excellent organizational and time management skills;

· Excellent oral and written communication skills;

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and an ability to learn to operate the organization’s database;

Working Conditions/Requirements

· Office environment but may include non-standard workplaces

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekend and overtime/flex hours to accommodate position activities and requirements

· Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license and insurance

· Ability to sit or stand for varying periods of time

Intersectional Feminist Analysis:

· Provide all services and supports using an intersectional feminist approach which recognizes that social norms are set by the dominant social groups, and work towards dismantling those norms; recognize women’s individual and unique social locations and experiences of oppression; understand identities of gender, sex, sexual orientation, class, race, ethnicity, religion or spirituality, immigration status, and ability; understand the complexity of these identities, and connect these social locations to the multi-layered experiences of power, privilege and oppression, and how various social norms give or diminish power; Understand how oppression contributes to systemic injustice and social inequality; demonstrate a strong understanding of all forms of gender-based violence; demonstrate a commitment to continuing education as it relates to feminism and violence against women.

Work Within a Harm Reduction Philosophy:

· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of harm reduction principles as an evidence-based framework; understand use, effects and impacts of substances and able to communicate both practical and functional aspects of harm reduction practices to the women we serve; meet women “where they are at” with a non-judgmental approach; demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning in regards to trends, strategies, legislation etc.
