Airbnb donates $175K to Huronia Transition Homes - Midland News

Huronia Transition Homes today announced it has received a $175,000 donation from Airbnb to advance their work to end violence against women across Simcoe County.

The donation comes from the Airbnb Community Fund, a $136 million CAD initiative Airbnb launched in 2020 to support local communities and the people who live there. Each year, Airbnb partners with its global host community to help identify important local issues and nonprofit recipients.

"When we received notification that we were awarded funding through the Airbnb Community Fund we were ecstatic and quite honestly surprised!” says Haily MacDonald, Executive Director at Huronia Transition Homes. “A member of the community went through the work of nominating our organization, and the ripple of kindness her thoughtful gesture has created has been incredible. Support from the Airbnb Community Fund will support many women and children through access to shelter, nutritious food, counselling, compassionate care, and crucial resources. This donation is a reminder of the power and strength of a community who shares in a vision of a world free from violence.”

This year’s Canadian Airbnb Community Fund donations are intended to help sustain and grow programs for organizations working to end abuse and exploitation, combat human trafficking, and strengthen support for vulnerable communities. This generous donation will support the life-changing work undertaken every day at Huronia Transition Homes. The funds will support development across their five distinct programs, including an emergency shelter for women experiencing violence and homelessness, longer-term residential program for women who have experienced human trafficking, psychoeducational program for children, counselling and advocacy centre, and social enterprise.
