Collingwood woman launches petition for reform of sexual assault law
Kelly Redmond, program supervisor for Athena’s Sexual Assault Counselling and Advocacy Centre, which serves all of Simcoe County, confirmed that it’s common for sexual assault charges to be dropped.
She said counter-charges (where the accused in one case works to have their victim charged with a crime) are also common in cases of intimate partner violence. When charges are dropped, it can leave victims asking, "was it worth it?”
