Donation made to La Maison Rosewood Shelter in Midland on behalf of Unifor members
Unifor, the largest private-sector union in Canada, recently donated $2,000 to La Maison Rosewood Shelter as a part of a total $158,000 commitment made to women’s shelters across the country.
“These donations are invaluable in our mission to end all violence against all women, and represent the commitment of the community to accomplish this,” Haily MacDonald, acting executive director of Huronia Transition Homes, stated in a press release.
Lana Payne, Unifor’s national president, wrote, “We recognize that the needs of women escaping violence and seeking equality across Canada remain great. We will continue to work in coalition with gender-equality groups, community partners, and the broader labour movement on ways to eliminate gender-based violence.”
Huronia Transition Homes encourages everyone to seek out ways to learn about, and activate against, gender-based violence in their own communities.
“Through education, creating conversation and holding ourselves accountable, we can create change,” the organization stated.
